Elon musk's SpaceX is operating to fix the Tonga's internet, according to a Fiji official

 

Tonga is a Polynesian kingdom which includes more than 170 South Pacific islands. It is also home to the rural capital of Nuku'alofa and also contains many beach resorts. Apart from that it has over 1.06 lakh population dived into different islands.

So, on January 15th Tonga's one and only optic-fibre to the internet was severed by a sudden volcanic eruption. The Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai fountain of liquid magma emission set off a wave that obliterated towns and resorts and covered the capital of the country of around 105,000 individuals in debris, as well as cutting the fiber-optic interchanges link.

The initiative was taken by Elon Musk and was presented by the Fiji's Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum on Twitter.

The Hunga Tonga volcano's shockwave shattered Tonga's internet connection, adding days of gut-wrenching uncertainty to disaster assessments. A @SpaceX team is now in Fiji establishing a Starlink Gateway station to reconnect Tonga to the world.

Many requested for the comment on the situation but neither the SpaceX nor the Tonga's Prime minister's office has responded. Hence, there is no response from both email and phone communication means.

The Rifinitiv shipping data shows that cable repair ship Reliance has been off the coast from the Tonga's main island as they prepare to fix the cable.

 With the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic it has been a disaster for those who can't communicate with their loved ones living abroad. Hope they soon recover from the current circumstances.
